E’ una lunga storia iniziata negli anni 90, quando Mario de Candia, autore, attore e regista venne da me alla don Quijote con un monologo tratto dalla biografia di Edie Sedgwick.
Da allora il monologo si trasformò prima in un recital multimediale e poi nel 2006 in un musical grazie alla produzione anglo americana Tambar Arts.
L’idea di Tambar era di sviluppare un workshop dal nostro trattamento e far nascere la storia dal racconto di una star sopravvissuta a quegli anni come Sylvia Miles . La cosa avvenne puntualmente presso il favoloso Laban Center il dicembre 2005, ma poi tutto si fermò per questioni finanziarie.
Edie era una giovane ereditiera discendente da una delle famiglie illustri che avevano fatto l’America. Aveva venti anni quando nel ’64 sbarcò a NY e portava con sé l’energia e la voglia di rompere le regole propria dei ventenni particolarmente in quegli anni.
La sua storia è l’archetipo degli slanci, delle illusioni e disillusioni tipiche di ogni generazione di ventenni a venire, ed in quanto archetipo ha scontato tutti i rischi che si corrono a quella età. Edie ebbe un grande successo grazie ad Andy Warhol che ne fece la propria musa lanciandola come Superstar nel firmamento della Pop Art. Le pagine di tutti i maggiori magazine la immortalarono come regina del Pop, ma quella stagione fu fugace e il successo mediatico prodotto da Warhol, effimero. La bella Edie dopo solo due anni rimase sola con le sue pillole, i suoi fantasmi le sue paranoie fino alla precoce morte per overdose nel 1971. La prima super model, la prima delle tante ragazze che oggi cercano il successo facile, morì inseguendo i suoi sogni confusi condivisi da una intera generazione in fermento per affermare una nuova identità.
Oggi abbiamo chiuso il progetto scrivendo l’intera sceneggiatura ed individuando i brani musicali dei Velvet Underground e con una presentazione multimediale siamo alla ricerca di un nuovo produttore.
It’s a long story begun in the ‘90ties, when Mario de Candia, writer, actor and director came to me in don Quijote with a monologue from Edie Sedgwick biography.
From then the monologue transformed into a multimedia recital and in 2006 in a musical thanks to the Anglo American Tambar Arts production company.
Tambar’s idea was to develop the story we wrote in a workshop and use as a narrator a Star survived to those years as Sylvia Myles. The workshop took place punctually at Laban Center in December 2005, but after then everything stopped due to economic problems.
Edie was a young heiress from one of the important families who built America. She was twenty when reached NY bringing her energy and braking rules willing of every young man or woman in those years.
Her story is the archetype of the impulse, illusions and disillusions typical of every twenty-year-old generation to come, and as archetype she paid the dues to all the risks youngsters run at that age. Edie had a great success thanks to Andy Warhol who made of her his muse launching her as a superstar in the Pop Art firmament. The major magazine cover shown her as the Pop Queen, but that season flown away quick and the media world success fleeting. The beautiful Edie after only a couple of years remained alone “with her pills, her amphetamine and her pearls…” until her dead due to an overdose in 1971. The very first supermodel, the very first of those many today young girls looking for an easy success, she died fallowing the confused dreams she shared with her generation on the move to affirm a new identity.
Today we finished the script and identified the single songs by Velvet Underground and with a multimedia presentation we are looking for a new production.
